The British Invasion!

April 18, 2013

Upon learning that a member from District 71 in the United Kingdom was planning a visit to our club, Toastmaster of the Evening, Scott Hoehn, DTM (pictured left) chose "The British Invasion" as the theme for the meeting. "Long live the Beatles!"

Our very special guest, Steve West (pictured right), ACB from East Midland's Speakers Club, filled one of our speaking roles, presenting his award-winning international speech, "Mr. Nobody."  In Steve's words, "In Toastmasters, you're no longer a Mr. Nobody. You're SOMEBODY!"  VIDEO HERE

Steve was presented District 84's Club Ambassador Pin by Past District 84 Governor Hoehn, who founded the award for our District. "Normally this is only earned by our District's members for visiting three other clubs. But for jumping over 'the pond', we hope you accept it as a token of our friendship", Hoehn said.

Toastmaster Carissa Hutchins added to the meeting with her memories of what she felt was the "Best of Britain".

Carissa shared highlights of her family's visit to England when she was only fourteen years old. Not even Carissa's antics amused the Royal Guards of Buckingham Palace!

Arlen Robinson, one of the Co-Founders of the Omnistar software company gave a valuable presentation of his company's Omnistar Affiliate software which helps grow a client's affiliate business.

Distinguished Toastmaster, Nancy Hoehn ran the Table Topics portion, ensuring that all members were chuffed (British term for happy). She chose a variety of British terms which members were challenged to relate to events in their own lives.

"Hello Govn'r!" Area Governor Janet Beckles-Molloy, ACS participated in the Table Topics portion, winning the competition for the evening. She was obviously enjoying British luck!
